Anxious Teens, Worried Parents: Coping Strategies for Families

Issue Date:
August, 2017
Article Body:

The Norfolk Public Library will present a program for teens coping with anxiety and their families. The program will be held on Tuesday, August 15 from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. in the Community Room. No registration is necessary.
The program will help middle and high school students and their parents distinguish between typical teen worries and excessive, difficult-to-control worries. Participants will learn how to challenge or let go of unhelpful thoughts and to develop strategies to cope with stressful situations, such as taking exams, juggling extracurricular activities, managing friendships, and applying to college. Parents will learn how they can reinforce good coping skills without adding pressure to their teens.
