Urgent Need for COVID-19 Case Reviewers
The Ashland Board of Health has an urgent need for community members who have clinical and/or medical backgrounds to contact Mark Oram, Health Agent/Director, [email protected] or 508-881-0100, ext. 7922. Oram is compiling a list of professionals to review COVID-19 cases when the need arises. This case review can be done from home.
Town Meeting, Elections Postponed Until June
For the safety of Ashland residents during the coronavirus, the Ashland Select Board voted on April 15 to change town meeting to Tuesday, June 16 and town elections to Wednesday, June 24. They were originally scheduled for May.
Ashland MRC Seeks Volunteers
The Ashland Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), an all-volunteer group established in 2006, is chaired by Michael Gurnick, a retired fire lieutenant with some 33 years with the Boston Fire Department. The volunteers are part of a national program. Ashland MRC has assisted with flu vaccination clinics during the H1N1 outbreak in 2009 and provides finish line medical support for the Ashland Half Marathon volunteers, information tables at the Ashland Farmers Market, Ashland Day, and the GreenUp Ashland town wide cleanup. Volunteers with a medical background and licensure are especially needed now. Retirees are encouraged to become involved. Join the GreenUp ‘Adopt-a-Street’ Program
GreenUp Ashland’s annual town-wide cleanup event, normally scheduled for the first Saturday of May, has been postponed to early October. Once finalized, the event date will be announced on the GreenUp website, www.greenupashland.org, and Facebook page. For questions on the town-wide cleanup event, email [email protected].
The group is finding many residents are concerned about the amount of litter they are seeing throughout town and asking how they can help. From May to October, GreenUp coordinates an Adopt-a-Street program, where residents sign up by the month to maintain a street/area. Cleaning up your adopted location takes place on your own time and typically takes no more than an hour. The GreenUp committee provides the bags and updates the Department of Public Works (DPW) with the location for adopt-a-street bag pickup. Senior Center Appreciates Its Volunteers
The Ashland Senior Center wants its volunteers to know they are appreciated. “The highlight of the year at the center is the volunteer luncheon,” Kim Kotob, volunteer coordinator, said. “Each May we like to say ‘thank you’ to our volunteers with a special luncheon at Keefe Tech. Due to COVID-19 we are unable to do so this year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteers for the love and dedication you have for the center. We appreciate the time, energy and commitment you put into making our center the best it can be.”
