Brick Sale to Benefit Friends of Franklin Library

Issue Date:
August, 2017
Article Body:

In conjunction with the addition of the new wing and major renovations to the historic Franklin Public Library, a brick patio will be constructed at the School Street entrance. The Friends of Franklin Library, an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated
to supporting America’s first public library, invites the public to participate in this phase of the project by purchasing an engraved brick.
The bricks, which will used to pave the patio, can be inscribed with the names of individuals, families or groups, or in memory of a loved one. The cost is $50 for two lines of text and $75 for three lines.
The engraved bricks will instill this space with a sense of community pride, and be a lasting contribution to an important Franklin resource. The original 1904 structure is home to books gifted to the town by Ben Franklin. In 1790, town meeting members voted to make those books available to residents at no charge, thereby creating the first public library collection in America.
Order forms are available at the library’s temporary location at Kenwood Circle or online at the Friends of Franklin Library’s Facebook page. Proceeds from the brick sales will be used to pay for new furniture and to fund library programs.
