At 7:30 p.m. on April 29, 2017, the Charles River Chorale will perform “And the Academy Award Goes To…,” its 32nd annual Spring Concert. This program features music which either won an Academy Award or was featured in an Academy Award-winning film over the past eight decades. Director Ashley Nelson will conduct the Chorale in a medley from The Wizard of Oz, followed by “When You Wish Upon a Star” (Pinocchio), “Love Is a Many Splendored Thing” (Love Is a Many Splendored Thing), “Something’s Coming/Tonight” (West Side Story), “Cabaret” (Cabaret), “Let the River Run” (Working Girl), a medley from The Lion King, and finally “Chicago: Choral Highlights” (Chicago). The chorale will be accompanied by a small ensemble led by Susan Fortin, Assistant Music Director and pianist.
The Charles River Children’s Choir will also perform, and is expected to join in the medley from The Lion King.
Ticket prices at the door are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and full-time students, and $10 for children under 12. A special family-of-four price of $50 is available for two adults and two dependent children. Refreshments will be available after the performance.
Medway High School is a new venue for the Chorale, which performed primarily at Millis High School for thirty of its first thirty-one seasons. The Chorale draws membership from throughout the Charles River Valley, and performs two major concerts per year. It is available for other events as well. The group hopes to continue to expand its membership, audience reach, skills, and repertory for many years to come.
