Event:
Morrill Memorial Library Join Dr. Hylander as he discusses a little known event in the years following the death of President Abraham Lincoln. In a somber moment, Lincoln asked his wife Mary to “lay my remains in a quiet place.” On the night of the presidential election of 1876, in Oak Ridge Cemetery, in Springfield, Illinois was anything but quiet. A gang of counterfeiters out of Chicago attempted to steal Lincoln’s entombed body and hold it for ransom.
