Dr. Gary Hylander: Operation Valkyrie @ 75: The Plot to Assassinate Hitler

Morrill Memorial Library Dr. Gary Hylander will examine the details of the plot to assassinate Hitler. By 1944, with the Allied landings in France and the collapse of the Eastern Front, conspirators within the German Officer Corps planned a coup to eliminate Hitler and to open negotiations with the West to end the war. After careful  planning, Col. Claus von Stauffenberg volunteered to place a bomb in Hitler’s conference room timed to explode during his daily military briefing.
