Along with the Holliston Business Association’s Springfest comes the town’s second “Porchfest,” an opportunity to get your groove on, laid back-style, with some of your neighbors. Although the event, which began in 2015, didn’t take place last year due to the tremendous effort to put it together coupled with not enough volunteers, it is back on strong this year, taking place on the same day as the Springfest.
“Essentially, what this is, is an event that is geared around pulling together this combination of the walkability of your neighborhood and live music,” says Jay Marsden, Holliston Porchfest organizer. Marsden says the approach was modeled after successful annual events that take place such local cities as Somerville.
“You chase down people who have porches – some people say I don’t have a porch but I have a patch of grass – you’re putting any number of individuals or act on one of those porch locations, and you’re giving people the ability to get a map and walk from location to location to take in the neighborhood feel and vibe,” he says.
The Holliston Arts Council has supported Porchfest in the past, says Marsden, and companies can “sponsor” a porch to help fund the effort.
