The Original Congregational Church in Wrentham will be hosting the Dixie Diehards on Friday, February 17 at 7:30 p.m. The Foxboro-based band plays the upbeat, hand-clapping, toe-tapping New Orleans-style jazz that evolved in the early part of the twentieth century.
Songs in a typical performance include St. Louis Blues, Georgia on My Mind, Closer Walk With Thee, When the Saints Go Marching In, and many more favorites.
Performing since 2006, the band members include Carl Gerhard, recently retired from 30 years in the U.S. Navy, where he was Commander of the Navy Band, Northeast Region; Bill Dube on sax and clarinet; Paul Peterson on tenor sax; Ron L’Herault on trombone; Bill Klesewetter on stride piano; Chris Wadsworth on banjo; Dolly Fruzetti on piano and singing; Steve Shaw on tuba and string bass; and Lori Inglis on drums/percussion. See the group’s YouTube channel (dixiediehardsjazz) for more information.
Tickets for the concert are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, available at the church office by calling 508-384-3110, or at www.musicatocc.org. The concert will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the church, accessible from the parking lot in the rear.
