The King Philip Walpole Youth Hockey Girls U14 Red team captured the fifth state championship in program history after posting its third straight shutout win in the Tier IV state tournament on March 19 at Bridgewater.
KPW allowed just one goal in the four-game tournament, but that goal came with 15 seconds left in a 1-0 loss to Andover in the opening game. KPW didn’t allow another goal after that, posting 4-0 shutouts over Weymouth and Yarmouth-Dennis to set up a rematch with Andover with the state championship on the line.
The momentum continued in the title game, where KPW rolled to a 3-0 win to seal the first state championship by a KPW girls team. KPW also played in the U14 Tier III state championship games in 2013-14 and 2014-15.
The KPW U14 Red team includes Nicole Brady, Tori Claypoole, Morgan Cunningham, Libby Curran, Katerina Dimacopoulos, Emma Garabedian, Ellen Giusti-Kizik, Madelyn Krupwich, Tess Marchi, Abigail Nixon, Sydney O’Shea, Jordyn Remmes, Gabby Trujillo, Jessica Widdop and Karly Willson, and is coached by Ronnie O’Shea (head), Ken Brady, Greg Curran and Peter Nixon.
