Event:
'Lincoln and the Election
of 1860'
Morrill Memorial Library
7 p.m.
Dr. Gary Hylander will present part 3 of his 4-part presidential elections series: "Lincoln and the Election of 1860." Convinced that Lincoln's election would result in a Republican effort to abolish slavery, Southern fire-eaters from the lower South voted to secede from the Union and form the Confederate States of America. In his inaugural address, Lincoln expressed confidence that the crisis would pass and that the Union would be preserved.
