The LiveARTS Concert Series concludes its 2015-16 season with renowned cellist Jan Mueller-Szeraws and Sally Pinkas, performing the music of Bach, Beethoven, Debussy and Frank. The concert takes place on Sunday, April 24th at 3:30 pm at the Meetinghouse of the First Universalist Society, located at 262 Chestnut Street in Franklin.
Jan Mueller-Szeraws’ musical journey has taken him over three continents as a soloist, chamber musician and teacher. He has performed frequently as a soloist with orchestras in Chile, Germany and the United States. He has been a guest artist at many festivals including Rockport, El Paso Pro-Musica and the European Chamber Music Association.
Noted engagements have included the Boston premiere of Gunther Schuller’s cello concerto as well as John Harbison’s and Chou Wen-Chung’s cello concertos with the New England Philharmonic. Mueller-Szeraws has appeared regularly at the Hammond Performing Arts Series and is the cellist of the contemporary music ensemble, Boston Musica Viva, as well as a founding member of Trio Tremonti.
Mr. Mueller-Szeraws studied at the Musikhochschule Freiburg, Germany and Boston University. He is Artist-in-Residence at the College of the Holy Cross and performs on a cello by David Tecchler (1717).
Following her London debut at Wigmore Hall, Israeli-born pianist Sally Pinkas has been heard as recitalist and chamber musician throughout the USA, Europe, Asia, Russia and Nigeria. Described by Gramophone magazine as “…an artist who melds lucid textures with subtle expressive detailing, minus hints of bombast or mannerism…”, she has appeared with the Boston Pops, Aspen Philharmonia, Jupiter Symphony and the Bulgarian Chamber Orchestra. Her summer credits include festivals at Marlboro, Tanglewood, Aspen, Monadnock, Apple Hill and Rockport, as well as Kfar Blum in Israel, Officina Scotese in Italy and Masters de Pontievoy in France.
Ms. Pinkas holds degrees from Indiana University, New England Conservatory and Brandeis University. She is pianist-in-residence at the Hopkins Center at Dartmouth College and is Professor of Music at Dartmouth’s Music Department.
The concert program will include J.S. Bach’s Gamba Sonata in g minor, BWV 1029, Beethoven’s Sonata for Piano and Violoncello in A Major, op. 69, Debussy’s Sonata for Violoncello and Piano (1915) and concludes with Cesar Franck’s Sonata in A Major for Violin and Piano (version for cello)
Tickets for this concert can be purchased at the door: Adults - $20; Seniors over 60 - $15; Students - $10; Children under 12 – free. Doors open at 3 p.m., the Meetinghouse is handicapped accessible and the hall is open seating.
