Medway Boy Scout Troop #367 will be holding its “Scouting for Food - Summer Stock -
Up!” food drive on Saturday, June 17, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Shaw’s in Medway. The drive will benefit the Medway Village Food pantry supporting local families & individuals in need. While food drives are common in the fall and around the holidays, this will be the first of its kind to stock up the pantry for the lean summer months when many donors are away.
“We have always talked about how donations drop off at the food pantry during the summer months, yet the needs of families and individuals utilizing the pantry stay the same. In some instances, families face an even greater challenge during the summer months without the benefit of school lunches. We decided to raise awareness & help the food pantry stock-up before the summer,” says Sharon Ross, Boy Scout Troop 367 volunteer.
Medway Cub Scout Pack #748 has been holding an annual “Scouting for Food!” in November for the last six years at Shaw’s. Boy Scout Troop #367 has always assisted with that event and volunteered at the food pantry’s Thanksgiving and Christmas distributions. This is the first year that Boy Scout Troop #367 will hold a “Summer Stock-Up” food drive, an event it hopes to continue each year.
“Medway has always been such an amazing community donating over 2,000 items at the holiday drives, so we hope to replicate this on June 17th!” says Ross.
Medway Boy Scout Troop 367 is currently made up of 46 Scouts, grades 5-12.
