Medway Community Farm is approaching its 10-year mark, and with that milestone, as things age, “we are in dire need for some capital improvement,” says volunteer Tina Wright.
What better way to raise some funds than a party? Get ready for some fun to benefit Medway Community Farm! A fundraiser Hoedown will take place at the Thayer House on Saturday, November 9, 2019, from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m.
“There will be music, some line dancing, a silent auction, and an overall fun time!” says Tina Wright, volunteer for the farm. She adds that music will include country favorites but also 70’s, 80’s and 90’s dance tunes by Al Kennedy of KTK Sound, so the night will include something for everyone.
The 21+ event will also feature light appetizers from locally grown food from the farm. Proceeds from the sale of tickets, which will be $35, will help pay for a new water pump for irrigating the fields, a washing station, greenhouses, as well as a new tractor.
“We have two vintage tractors to weed the rows, now,” says Wright, “probably from 1955.”
The 10th anniversary of the Medway Community Farm comes with nearly a complete changeover of board leadership.
“There are a lot of new members, a lot of new energy,” says Wright, “and we want to thank the prior board. That is what got us to the 10th anniversary.”
The Medway Community Farm is also beginning a program in which Medway residents and other visitors to the farm can donate money or shares to provide both food pantries in Medway, the Medway Village Church Food Pantry and the Medway Food Pantry, with weekly donations of fresh vegetables in all seasons.
“Combined the two food pantries feed 200 families a week,” says Wright. “People could donate a full or partial share through our website, (www.medwaycommunityfarm.org) or donate a portion of their farm bucks to the food pantries for the winter, spring or summer share.”
