The Norfolk Lions in conjunction with a number of local organizations are in the final planning stages for the 25th annual Norfolk Community Day, to be held on June 3 at the Holmes Complex on 22 Myrtle Street in Norfolk. Community Day starts at 11 a.m.
Events at this year’s 25th anniversary celebration include a children’s art contest, touch a DPW truck, Tom Antonellis’ bird houses, golf ball drop 50/50 raffle, and many new and old favorite amusements including the Sports Obstacle Course, Batter Up, High Striker, Wipe Out and Frozen bounce house. Plus, in the spirit of celebrating the 25th anniversary, there will be special giveaways, free raffles, a caricaturist and a scavenger hunt.
The black top entertainment will include a number of local groups who have participated for the last 24 years. And back by popular demand, Mike Piazza and his Flying High Frisbee Dogs will entertain the crowd. Mike is the #1 professional K-9 frisbee performer in the world. He and his highly athletic dogs will perform a variety of frisbee and other entertaining tricks.
This year’s schedule of events:
On the Main Stage: King Philip World Percussion Ensemble-African and Steel Drums (11 a.m.); Henry the Juggler (12:05 p.m.); Inspiration Performing Troupe (1 p.m.); kids musical chairs and balloon toss (1:45 p.m.); High Flying Frisbee Dogs (2:15 p.m.); pie eating contest, golf ball drop and silent auction winners (2:45 p.m.); and Kathy Ryan Dance Studio (3:15 p.m.).
On the Dining Area Stage: Good Tymes Banjo Band (noon); DJ Peter Conti (all day); and Foam Fun (3:30 p.m.).
Children’s amusements, as well as fire engine rides, hay wagon rides, and train rides will be ongoing throughout the day.
Enjoy the food, games and fun all sponsored by various local groups. Many local organizations are selling goodies to raise funds, as well as providing literature about their groups. It’s a great day for everyone to get together and celebrate Norfolk.
In addition, food pantry supplies are at their lowest during the summer months, so to help alleviate this problem the Lions are running a food drive at Community Day. Some of the items currently needed are jelly, maple syrup, hamburger/tuna helper, mayonnaise, tooth paste and hand soap. Help the Lions help others by bringing a contribution for the food pantry.
The Norfolk Lions could not undertake this fun event without the widespread assistance of all those who volunteer their funds, materials, and time. The Lions would like to thank the Norfolk Fire, Police and Highway Departments and the Norfolk Recreation Department for their ongoing support. The Lions are also pleased to acknowledge the sponsors for this year’s Community Day, as well as annual sponsors:
