The Ashland Police Department regrets to announce the passing of our beloved retired K-9 Dax. K-9 Dax fell ill over the last couple of days and his handler, Sgt. Chris Alberini, made the very difficult and heartbreaking decision to end his suffering.
K-9 Dax was provided with a full Police escort and full honors as he took his final ride this afternoon past the Ashland Police Department. K-9 Dax passed peacefully at approximately 15:00 hours May 15, with his handler by his side.
K-9 Dax faithfully served the Ashland community from 2009 until his retirement in February 2020. We are forever indebted to him for his loyal service and for keeping our community safe.
We are extremely grateful to the Ashland Animal Hospital for their compassion and accommodations during this difficult time. We would also like to acknowledge our brothers and sisters with Ashland Fire Department and Ashland DPW, as well as the various police departments and K-9 units who assisted us today in giving K-9 Dax a fitting tribute and hero’s send off.
Rest easy K-9 Dax. We love you and we will miss you. Thank you for your service, boy. We have the watch.
