St. Jude Parish in Norfolk will host a suicide prevention workshop titled QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) on September 13 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the parish hall.
QPR are three steps that anyone can learn to help prevent suicide. They are clear, concise and efficient. Just like CPR, QPR is an emergency response to someone in crisis and can save lives. QPR is the most widely taught Gatekeeper training in the world. As a QPR Gatekeeper, you will learn to recognize the warning signs of suicide, how to offer hope, and how to get help and save a life.
The key components covered in the training include how to Question, Persuade and Refer someone who may be suicidal; how to get help for yourself or learn more about preventing suicide; the common causes of suicidal behavior; the warning signs of suicide; and how to get help for someone in crisis. Training is free but pre-registration is required. Contact Beth Budny at 508-530-1346 with questions and to register, or call the church office at 508-528-0170.
