Friends of the Ashland Public Library present the Andromeda Quintet performing a program called “Women at the 49th Parallel” on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2 to 3 p.m. at the Ashland Library, 66 Front St. The concert is free and open to all ages. A reception will follow the concert.
For this concert, Andromeda Quintet has curated a set of stylistically diverse brass quintets, featuring music by women from the U.S. and Canada, including several with ties to the Boston area. The composers are Violet Archer, Jennifer Bernofsky, Marti Epstein, Jennifer Higdon, Elizabeth Raum, and Joan Tower.
Named after the galaxy nearest our own, Andromeda Quintet brings adventurous listening experiences to audiences of all ages. The group features Kathryn Driscoll and Ryan Noe, trumpet; Marina Krickler, horn; Gregory Platt, trombone; and Matthew Visconti, bass trombone. They have performed across the U.S. at such venues as the International Women’s Brass Conference and the College Music Society Northeast Regional Conference. They have also produced and performed a number of outreach and educational programs.
The Sunday Concert Series will focus on world and classical music. The series is organized by Ashland resident Marina Krickler, cofounder of the Andromeda Quintet. Future concerts are planned for Dec. 22, March 22 or 29, and May 10.
