Joyful Feast Dinner Church Offers New Opportunity for Worship

Monthly Event to Take Place at Millis’ Church of Christ, April 3, May 8, June 5
Issue Date:
April, 2017
Article Body:

On the first Monday of the month, through June 5th, members and friends of the Church of Christ, Congregational will gather to worship like the ancient church. Participants will prepare a meal together, eat together, sing and pray and, yes, even clean up together. The Dinner Church will be held at the Church of Christ, Congregational at 142 Exchange St. in Millis. Everyone in the community is welcome to join in this special opportunity for fellowship and worship.
What to Expect
Our gatherings begin around 5:30 p.m., with folks gathering in the kitchen to prepare the evening’s dinner, set up for the meal, and chat with one another.
At 6:30 p.m., we gather in a circle and the more formal part of our worship begins with singing, candle lighting, prayers, and the breaking of the bread. We then help ourselves to the food, sit together to eat, and talk about the evening’s theme. We’ll often hear a reading from the Bible and then after a short reflection, everyone is invited to engage in conversation.
Around 7:30 p.m., we wrap things up, receive a blessing, and clean up together.
Our service is based in the ancient liturgical practice of call and response so anyone can participate whether or not they can read words or music. There is a table of quiet activities to engage the kids throughout the evening if they start to feel restless.
FAQ
Are my kids welcome?
YES! All are welcome. We will have a small table of kid friendly activities and books available.
Do I need to bring anything?
Just your willingness to work. All the food and cooking materials will be provided by the church.
What if I can’t show up to help cook? Can I still come?
Absolutely! There will be a place for you at the table. (And the dishes will need to be done after dinner!)
I have food allergies, am I welcome?
Yes! The meals will be nut free, and we will make sure that there is a gluten free option. Feel free to bring along food if you are concerned that your food allergy needs can’t be met.
What kind of food will you have?
Each month the food options will vary. We hope to buy fresh and local produce as often as possible and will welcome contributions from individual gardens in the summer. Meals will be simple – such as hearty soup or a stir-fry.
