Stephen Collins to Portray Artist James McNeill Whistler

Event:
Morrill Memorial Library Actor Stephen Collins will return to the Morrill Memorial Library to present a one-man show, “Butterfly,” by Carl A. Rossi, about the life and times of James McNeill Whistler. Whistler was a volatile American artist who struggled for personal freedom and artistic expression, primarily in Victorian England. The dramatization depicts Whistler at two phases of his life; first as a bankrupt artist in his forties on commission in Venice, then as the lonely but established legend in his sixties living in London. It concludes with an explanation of how Whistler came to paint the iconic portrait of his mother, Anna McNeill Whistler, on display at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.
